Aiming to Provide the Highest Quality Services That Contribute to Our Customers' Security, Health and Wellbeing

I'd like to express my gratitude for your continued patronage and support.

Last year, we saw tremendous damage occur in various regions across Japan, brought about by major disasters such as the Kumamoto earthquakes and a massive fire that broke out in Itoigawa, Niigata Prefecture. I'd like to once again offer my deepest condolences to all those who were affected by these tragic events.


We are working to achieve growth in accordance with quality, aiming to be the most highly evaluated P&C insurance company. In FY2016, the first year of our Mid-Term Management Plan, Sompo Japan Nipponkoa and Sompo Holdings Group as a whole delivered results that surpassed initial forecasts, marking a steady start to the plan.
I believe that this strong performance would not have been possible without the support of our customers and others who have stood by us over many years. I'd like to take this opportunity to express my sincerest gratitude for your support.

Today, we are seeing a new wave of technological innovation, also known as the Fourth Industrial Revolution, sweep across the world at an unprecedented pace and with a greater impact on our lives than ever before. This innovation is being driven by technologies such as the Internet of Things (IoT), big data, robotics, and artificial intelligence (AI). The business environment surrounding us is also changing dramatically. In these times of great future uncertainty, I believe that we must reaffirm the fundamental principles of business and recommit ourselves to an unwavering focus on customers and front-line execution. With this in mind, we must continuously implement ambitious initiatives to stay on top of the changes of our times with speed and urgency.

In April 2016, we established SOMPO Digital Lab as part of these ambitious initiatives. From two research and development bases in Silicon Valley and Tokyo, we will accurately monitor changes around the world, and sharpen our existing businesses through the power of technology, with a view to driving the creation of new value.

As the core company of the Sompo Holdings Group, we will embrace the challenge of developing a wide range of business fields. Concurrently, we will lead the way forward to realize the Group Management Philosophy, which calls on us to "contribute to the security, health, and wellbeing of customers and society as a whole by providing insurance and related services of the highest quality possible."
